paulson. it's important week. >> it is. >> yes. thanksgiving by the way coming up. >> thank you. cloudy skies. we had a little break from some of that rain. the cloud cover there is still some up there. rain stays to the north. that is going to change. we'll talk about that coming up in five minutes. highs today in the 60s. here is sal. good morning. right now san francisco traffic looking good. no major problems coming up to the 80 split right now. also the morning commute looks good if you are driving approaching the bay bridge. it's 5:00 let's go back to dave and pam. all right thank you, sal. in just a few hours san jose police will be speaking out about a series of crimes that led up to an officer involved shooting. 26-year-old jonathan wilbanks and another man are responsible for four armed robberies. a homicide and officer involved shooting all in one night. wilbanks was arrested friday when he and another man opened

fire on two officers. one of the officers is hurt and is recovering. police are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of that second suspect. alex savidge is in san jose this morning. he'll have a live report on this story coming up. your time is 5:01. san jose catholic bishop personally apologized during a family mass after a convicted sex offender was given permission to volunteer at a children's festival last month. he said he was sorry for failure at the diocese level which gave mark wearrez to work at the fast have. a meeting for concerned parents are scheduled for november 27th. a man was killed in a camp site saturday night and they have made an arrest. the possible homicide was at a camp site south of depot park. police say they have found a 51- year-old man at the camp about

11:00 that evening. he was pronounced dead. 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with the death. so far police have not released his name. fighting continues today between israel and palestinian militants in the gaza strip. despite international pressure to stop the violence. at least 84 palestinians have been killed by israeli air strikes over the last five days and hamas militants in gaza continue to fire rockets into israel. most of which are intercepted by their iron dome defense system. u.s. lawmakers are watching the developments closely. >> i don't think the israelis really want a ground work. if sending ground troops in is the only way they can clean out the nests of rockets being fired at them, you know you can't blame them for doing it. >> israel has 75,000 troops on stand by ready to launch a ground invasion into gaza.

u.n. secretary general is scheduled to arrive in egypt for peace talks today. new this morning president obama is now in cambodia. the third and last stopon his asian tour. the president along with secretary of sit hillary clinton arrived just two hours ago. the other history making stop on the president's trip coming up. happening right now holiday shoppers are already lined up outside of a best buy store ahead of black friday. lorraine blanco joining us live. she is in pinole where people are hunkered down in tents as we speak. right? >> yes, they are dave. it's very early and people are already they are out here camping out for black friday. here in pinole you can see there are tents out here. outdoor chairs, even a card table out here. it's very early in the morning.

so so far there hasn't been much of a peep from the tents. there was one lady that came out to go to the bathroom. she is not quite ready to talk yet. employees here say this is the earliest shoppers have come out to make sure they are the first in line to take advantage of of course the holiday deals like big screen tvs and laptop computers. doors are supposed to open at midnight on friday. you can see she is going back into her tent right now. but you can actually be here earlier to get tickets i guess so you can can be the first to get some of these block buster deals. nation-wide black friday sales are expected to be down from last year. according to consumer research group big insight. 147million people will get up early for this big shopping day. now that is down five million shoppers from last year. we're going to be on again at 6:00 and hopefully by then there will be a few early risers out here and they will tell us why they have been waiting out here for the last

couple days already and why they are here so early for the black friday deals. obviously they are big-time shoppers and want to be here first to take advantage of the deals. one of the things they are here for are door buster deals. we'll tell you about what some of those are coming up in the 6:00 hour. for now we are reporting live in pinole lorraine blanco. back to our top stories this morning. a san jose officer is recovering one of two suspects still on the loose this morning. ktvu alex savidge is in san jose now with more on how the suspects are are being linked to other very serious crimes. alex. >> reporter: while they were on the run police say this pair of criminals shot and killed an innocent driver they were trying to carjack this man here outside the seven-11 store. a memorial has been set up for the victim i want to show you video of what this scene looked like friday night. this morning san jose police asking for the public's help to

identify and capture a seven man they say was involved in the killing and also a string of violent crimes. so far one arrest has been made. 26-year-old john than wilbanks is behind bars. they believe they committed four separate rob is and opened fire on officers following a pursuit. one of the officers was grazed by gunfire as bullets through the windshield of their patrol car. police exchanged and tushed fire. wounding wilbanks he was eventually taken into custody. they say his accomplice was able to get away during that shootout of police. and there is a man hunt in the south bay to try to find him. police believe he is considered very dangerous to the public at this point. the san jose police union is also offering a $10,000 reward for any information that can lead to this man's capture. again they are still trying to identify him at this point. san jose police planning to hold a news conference later this morning. that begins at 9:30 at city hall.

reports some are questioning if it's too big to handle. however oracle team usa says risky maneuvering not the design caused that accident. oracle is rushing to finish repairs in time for september's america's cup finals. coach jeff tedford's future at cal is still uncertain this morning. cal's athletic department told the bay area news group the university had not decided whether or not they will keep him as coach. then cal lost to oregon state 62 to 14. the bears finished the season with three wins, nine losses. cal by the way will hold its season ending team meeting today. tedford has been the coach at cal for 11 seasons. we are now hearing from a girlfriend of a tech pioneer john mcafee who is on the run in belize. police want to question mcafee about the killing of his neighbor. over the weekend mcafee started posting to a blog writing about what he calls harassment by the

belize government. mcafee says he fears police will kill him if he comes forward. cnn talked to his girlfriend. >> he will turn himself in if they will just ease the pressure off him. because he didn't do it. and he said he didn't do it. he was here with me and two other girls. >> mcafee and his neighbor reportedly argued over the poisoning of four of mcafee's dogs. mcafee is believed to have shot the dogs to end their suffering. authorities are trying to determine if the same gun was used in their neighbor's killing. the company that makes twinkies and dingdongs will be in bankruptcy court. hostess is asking the court for me permission to sell its assets and go out of business. along the assets is one of the most recognized brands in the country. it would be a surprise if other companies did not bid on the name and recipe of twinkies and other snacks. sal so far hasn't had to break a sweat. >> it's been good.

welcome back. time now 5:24. four college students with bay area ties have been awarded rhodes scholarships to study at oxford university. kathryn laport is among the scholarship winners. the other winners include margaret hayden.

stanford graduate student rachel kolb. and daniel price. they will receive about $50,000 a year for three to four years of studying. charges have now been dropped against a raiders linebacker. mcclain was supposed to begin serving 180 days in jail but the other man involved in a highly publicized dispute decided not to press charges. mcclain was convicted of three charges after firing a gun during an argument last year in alabama. mcclain will not serve any jail time and he is legally cleared. in a ktvu special report thousands of bay area parolees may soon get a free pass from behind bars. it's part of an effort to relieve overcrowding at state prisons. the state wants to discharge 10,000 parolees from the state parole supervision. officials say the plan will only release low level offenders but according to an internal department of

all. no problems on interstate 680. this is a look at 680 southbound past mission the traffic here does look pretty good. let's go back to dave and pam. a man hunt is happening right now in the south bay. it's for a man wanted in connection a violent crime spree and a police shooting. ktvu alex savidge is live in san jose where a memorial has been established for a man who was caught up in the middle of this violence. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning. an innocent driver gunned down during an attempted carjacking. san jose police say this pair of criminals shot and killed that man here outside the 7- eleven store. there has been a memorial set up with candles and flowers and notes for the victim. san jose police are asking for the public's help to identify and capture one of the two men involved in that killing and also a spring of violent crimes. so far one arrest has been made. 26-year-old jonathan wil been

tuned for ktvu news at 5:00 and 6:00 tonight. menlo park police are increasing patrols in the belle haven area after a man was shot to death while walking to his car. a candle marks the spot where carey cudlip died. he was visiting a friend when he was attacked. police are not sure if the attack was a random robbery or targeted. but it is in the same neighborhood where police say there were two other shootings this month. >> i'm sad at the time but i can't do nothing about it. there is just things people do that don't got any kind of mind. >> cudlip ismenly park -- is menlo park's second homicide of the year. a meeting set today in san francisco for pollution control. environmental justice group is claiming cancer causing dust from that big fire in august at the refinery is lingering around homes and gardens.

between albany and san pablo. the group says five of eight dust samples contain very high levels of potent cancer causing chemical. chevron has questioned whether the tests were scientifically valid. the port of oakland oakland worker -- port of oakland workers plan to start a strike. they have gone 16 months with no contract. the port is demanding pay cuts despite having a surplus. and they also claim the board initial is lying about port finances to the workers as well as the public. those workers will begin their strike at 9:00 tonight at the oakland airport. the strike action at the port will begin tomorrow morning. happening now this morning hundreds of families in the south bay will get boxes of food designed to make the holidays a little merrier. janine de la vega has the story this morning where volunteers are busy.

janine. >> reporter: hi, pam. that is right. we're inside sacred heart community service. it will be a very busy day here. you can see me these -- you can see behind me these card board boxes lined up. here is what is inside the boxes. a bunch of canned food, beans, mash mellows, stuffing, rice, and of course a turkey and fresh produce. this is all for families that were actually waiting on outside a week and a half ago. people lined up in the rain and camped out overnight to register to receive holiday food boxes. now most of the people who signed up to receive them are not homeless. they have been laid off from their jobs or just don't make enough to survive in the silicon valley. this morning at 9:00 a.m. volunteers and staff will be handing out the gift boxes. we are joined with the spokesperson. talk to me about the need. >> well a lot of families don't have the full-time employment or the kind of wages that they need to be able to survive in a

very expensive silicon valley and so they come to us for assistance at holiday time and throughout the year. >> reporter: you say even more so than last year? >> we expect it to be about the same as last year. so far it has been busier. we will take walk up registrations for food all through this week. so we are waiting to see what happens. we're all a little nervous. >> reporter: so you are not turning anybody away at this point. >> we are trying to figure out how not to do that. we want to be able to feed people that are in need. >> reporter: how short are you right now as far as turkeys and food goes? >> right at this time we need about 1,000 more turkeys for wednesday. we are okay for today. we have a big plan for just coming on into tomorrow. but we can take every donation. go out and shop for your turkey for thanksgiving and buy an additional one and bring it by here. or let us do the buying for you. >> reporter: okay thank you so much jay with sacred heart

one of the men you see here is arrested. plus san francisco supervisors are due to vote tomorrow on whether to ban public nudity. scott say there is are too many complaints from business owners and homeowners about public nudity specifically in the castro district. >> others will see their homes torn down. the lucky ones were issued permits. houses with red tags are targeted for demolition. those homeowners are saving belongings before their homes are bulldozed. the building department is still trying to get ahold of many displaced homeowners. vice president joe biden says he will make sure the jersey shore is restored

yesterday afternoon. at a home on 47th avenue between geary and anza streets. later today psychiatrists will give us an update or update to the judge in the mental -- last month a judge suspended criminal proceedings against juan koe and ordered psychiatric evaluation. . he is charged with seven counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder. koe may have been targeting an administrator who was not on campus that day. a former pta treasurer will be sentenced today for stealing from a sunnyvale school. he embezzled $30,000 from vargas elementary school. she purchased gift cards for fundraisers and took them for

let's check in with sal who is keeping an eye on traffic this morning. what are you looking at? >> we are looking at just you know good traffic out there for the most part. let's go outside and take a look at what we have now. the traffic continues to look pretty good on highway 4. although it is crowded in antioch. it's not too bad in bay point. if you are driving on interstate 680 it looks good. also the morning commute on 80 westbound coming out of western contra costa county looks good in oakland and berkeley. when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza it's still light. if you are drive along the shore 880 the traffic is moving well. now back to steve. thank you, sal. a very good morning. cloudy to mostly cloudy. one more system and it looks like we will get a little bit of a pattern change. that will be late tuesday into early wednesday. first let's get the monday night forecast out of the way. not too bad. upper 50s probably for most of the game. but it looks like rain holds off for another 24 hours at least. 50s on the temps.

they really haven't changed much. that is due to the cloud cover. more sun to the south. more clouds to the north. rain line up toward mendocino county and lake county. so a lot of cloud cover. cloud and rain forecast does show you can watch the timeline. everything stays near ukiah north. right there for awhile. and again this is one forecast model. doesn't mean it's right. but i tend to buy into it. everything will stay up there through tonight. maybe light rain starts to drift south. by tomorrow night it makes its move. and then it's over us. by 6:00 in the morning on wednesday most of it is gone. very similar to what we had. almost on late saturday and sunday. after that it looks like we go high and dry expect for a thick fog out in the valleys. cloud, sun, mild. a little warmer there. 60s on the temps. low to mid to maybe a few

upper. i think you've got to go to gilroy and morgan hill to get that. otherwise 60s across the board here. clouds and rain developing. thursday looks good. night morning fog maybe. but sunny and a little warmer. i think the inland areas will deal with that thick fog. cisco says the deal will expand its cloud computing capabilities. it is a privately held san francisco based company that planned to remain private but the cisco deal will allow meraki to achieve its revenue goal of $1 billion. virgin america cutting back its expenses as the cost of jet fuel increases. virgin also says it's cutting some of unprofitable flights but there is no plans to drop any cities its serves.

good morning. mostly cloudy skies. any rain will be way to the north today. we'll have to wait until tomorrow night. more on that coming up later. time now 5:55. later today federal investigators will question the driver of a parade float carrying military veterans that was involved in a deadly crash with a train. four military veterans were killed. 16 other people were hurt in last thursday's crash in midland, texas.

the ntsb says the float started to cross the railroad tracks after the trains warning system sounded. the guardrail came down on the float. the train was not able to stop in time. the parade by the way had used that same route for three years. today marks 24 years since a nine-year-old girl from hayward disappeared. michaela garrett was last seen at the rainbow market on mission boulevard. today at 10:00 michaela's mother will hold her annual gathering at that market now called mexico super. right now tests are being performed on a bone fragment trying to determine if that bone fragment belongs to michaela. the bone was found in a well near stockton. if tonight the san rafael city council will consider a new three year agreement with their minor league baseball team. the san rafael pacifics made their debut this year. the team raised about $10,000

for the city. the new agreement addresses several year is. among those are concerns about noise levels and j-walking in the area. in just a few hours first lady michelle obama will present a national award to an oakland based youth program at the white house. youth radio was chosen from a pool of 350 organizations to receive the national arts and humanities youth program award. the nonprofit teaches hundreds of students nation-wide to produce radio segments. they also learn about team work. >> bravo for them. some of them work within ktvu as well. >> yes they do. sal, everybody behaving on the road? >> no.
